Karachi, Oct 24:
At least 12 people, including three women, were killed when a passenger bus collided head-on with a van near Uthal in Pakistan’s Balochistan province on Friday, police said. Several other passengers were injured, some of them critically, raising fears that the death toll could increase.
The accident occurred at Uthal Zero Point, where the highway curves. Inspector Aftab Malik said the bus, which was travelling from Gwadar to Karachi, collided with a van coming from the opposite direction. The van was travelling from Karachi towards Lasbela.
Rescue teams rushed to the accident site to evacuate the injured and clear the road. The injured were taken to hospitals for treatment, while authorities assessed the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The accident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by head-on collisions on highways. Further details about the identities of the victims and the condition of those injured were not immediately available.
