Chennai, Oct 5:

Readers from outside the Chennai region may have to spend more to obtain membership at the Anna Centenary Library, with additional documentation requirements making registration costlier for those without an Aadhaar-linked address from the Chennai region.

Readers from the Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts can use Aadhaar-based address identification for membership. Applicants from other districts, however, are required to submit additional certification, including documentation from a notary public.

The requirement has drawn attention among students and competitive-exam aspirants who travel to Chennai from other parts of Tamil Nadu to use the library’s extensive resources.

Those who depend on the library for regular study facilities have sought a simpler membership procedure that would make access easier for students from across the State.
