Chennai, Oct 5:
Persons with disabilities have urged the State government to ensure that the Vettri Payanam public transport scheme is expanded to cover their specific travel requirements.
Representatives of the community have sought greater clarity on how the scheme would benefit persons with disabilities and whether adequate provisions would be made to ensure accessibility and ease of travel.
They said public transport schemes should take into account the needs of passengers with mobility and other disabilities, including access to buses, boarding facilities and assistance during travel.
The demand comes amid wider discussions over expanding the scheme and ensuring that its benefits reach all sections of society.
