NEW DELHI:

The Supreme Court on Monday warned that it would annul decisions taken unilaterally by the Chief Election Commissioner in connection with the special intensive revision of electoral rolls.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana asked the Election Commission and its three members to clarify whether important decisions relating to the revision were taken unilaterally.

The court said the law requires decisions of the three-member Election Commission to be taken either unanimously or by majority. It said that if it found instances of unilateral decisions, such orders could be annulled.

The observation came during the hearing of a petition challenging aspects of the special intensive revision of voter rolls.
