New Delhi, Oct 7:
Veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has made a surprise return to India’s T20I squad for the upcoming New Zealand tour, four years after his last appearance for the national team.
The 36-year-old last played for India against New Zealand in November 2022. His recall comes after selectors backed his experience and ability to swing the ball, particularly during the powerplay overs.
Bhuvneshwar’s return adds experience to India’s pace attack as the team begins preparations for the next phase of white-ball cricket. His ability to move the new ball and control the early overs remains one of his major strengths.
The selectors have also named Dhruv Jurel as captain of the India A team for the New Zealand tour. The India A side will play three four-day matches against New Zealand A from October 24.
Bhuvneshwar’s comeback will be closely watched, particularly with the 2027 ODI World Cup on the horizon. His performances in the upcoming assignment could determine whether he can force his way back into India’s plans beyond the T20 format
