Ferozepur, Oct 12:
Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence wing has arrested a woman for allegedly transmitting classified information about Indian Army installations to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), while two Army personnel have been booked for their alleged involvement in the espionage operation.
The accused, Gurnoor Sidhu, a resident of Faridkot, was arrested near an under-construction bridge on the Hussainiwala border road. She is being interrogated as investigators seek to establish the extent of the alleged information-sharing network and identify any other persons involved.
According to a police statement, investigators received information on Thursday that the accused were allegedly conspiring to share sensitive details about military zones and cantonments with Pakistani agencies.
The two Army personnel, who were deployed along the India-China border, allegedly collected sensitive information, while Sidhu allegedly facilitated its transmission using mobile phones, tablets and internet services.
The investigation is expected to focus on the nature of the information allegedly shared, the communication channels used and whether any sensitive operational details were compromised. The allegations against the accused remain subject to investigation, and their guilt will have to be established through the legal process.
The arrest highlights continuing security concerns over attempts to obtain military information through individuals with access to sensitive installations or personnel. Police have not disclosed further details about the alleged information transmitted or the identities of the two Army personnel.
