New Delhi, Oct 16:
Delhi has been placed under heightened security ahead of a protest march organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), with more than 25,000 police and paramilitary personnel deployed across key areas of the national capital.
The group has called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. It is also protesting the arrests of its leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka earlier this week.
Authorities have imposed prohibitory orders in Connaught Place and surrounding areas and strengthened surveillance, including the installation of additional CCTV cameras at Central Park and Rajiv Chowk Metro station.
The protest is also expected to draw participation from the Aam Aadmi Party and student organisations. Police have urged the public to avoid affected areas as security arrangements remain in place.
The demonstrations come amid a wider political dispute over voter list revisions, with Opposition parties demanding greater transparency and the Election Commission maintaining that the exercise is intended to update electoral rolls.
