National Award-winning music composer and singer GV Prakash Kumar has sung a track for actor Yash’s character Ravana in director Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming mythological epic Ramayana. The film, featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita, is being mounted as a major multi-part cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic.
GV Prakash’s involvement in the ambitious project came unexpectedly after a phone call from Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman, who is scoring the film alongside celebrated Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer. According to a statement shared by the musician’s public relations team, GV Prakash was returning from the airport after a visit to Ayodhya when Rahman contacted him and asked him to sing a track. The singer said he had not known about the opportunity in advance.
Yash plays Ravana, the central antagonist in the epic, while the ensemble cast includes Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh and Sheeba Chadha, among others. The collaboration between Rahman, Zimmer and GV Prakash has added to interest in the film’s music, particularly the track associated with Ravana.
Produced by Namit Malhotra and directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is planned as a large-scale theatrical adaptation aimed at audiences across India and international markets. The first instalment is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5. The project has attracted considerable attention because of its star cast, visual scale and the coming together of leading Indian and international musical talent.
