Chennai,Oct 22:
Commuters using the newly opened Poonamallee Bypass–Vadapalani Metro corridor will be able to begin their journeys an hour earlier from October 23, with Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) advancing the first train service from 7 am to 6 am.
The revised schedule for Phase II Corridor 4, also known as the Yellow Line, follows feedback from commuters seeking an earlier start to services. The 15-km elevated corridor connects 11 Metro stations and is expected to benefit office-goers, students and other passengers travelling during the early morning hours.
Under the revised timetable, services will operate from 6 am to 9 pm in both directions. The last train will depart from the Poonamallee Bypass and Vadapalani terminals at 9 pm.
On weekdays and Saturdays, trains will run every 10 minutes during peak hours, between 8 am and 11 am and between 5 pm and 8 pm. During non-peak hours, services will operate at 15-minute intervals.
On Sundays and public holidays, trains will run every 15 minutes throughout the operating period, from 6 am to 9 pm, without a separate peak-hour schedule.
The earlier start is intended to make the corridor more convenient for passengers who need to reach workplaces, educational institutions and connecting transport services in the morning. The corridor provides an additional public transport option for commuters travelling between the western suburbs and Vadapalani.
CMRL has revised the timings in response to passenger feedback as it seeks to improve the usefulness of the newly opened Phase II stretch. Commuters are advised to check the latest official service information before travelling.
