Chennai, Oct 22:
Metro passengers faced inconvenience at Chennai Airport on Wednesday evening after a technical problem disrupted services at the airport Metro station, prompting staff to undertake repair work.
The disruption affected commuters returning home after work and passengers who rely on the Metro for onward travel to different parts of the city. The technical fault was being attended to by Metro personnel, according to reports.
Passengers were advised to consider alternative public transport options, including Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses and suburban electric trains, while the issue was being resolved. The interruption highlighted the difficulties commuters can face when a key transport connection becomes unavailable, particularly during busy hours.
The airport Metro station serves passengers travelling to and from Chennai International Airport, besides employees and residents using the city’s public transport network. A disruption at the station can complicate connections for air travellers who have to coordinate their journeys with flight timings.
The incident followed another technical problem reported at Metro stations earlier in October, when passengers faced difficulties purchasing tickets for more than two hours. The latest interruption has once again drawn attention to the need for reliable equipment, prompt fault detection and effective communication with commuters.
Separately, CMRL has announced that services on the Poonamallee BypassâVadapalani corridor will begin at 6 am from October 23, an hour earlier than the original schedule.
Passengers using Metro services are advised to check official service updates and keep alternative travel options in mind when planning time-sensitive journeys.
