Tirunelveli, Oct 23:
Minister Maria Wilson on Thursday alleged that corruption had taken place in projects implemented during the previous DMK regime, claiming that irregularities had been detected in four departments audited so far.
The Minister made the allegations while speaking to reporters in Nellai after inspecting preparations for dealing with rain-related emergencies. She said the State’s financial position was strong and asserted that the present administration was handling public funds transparently.
Referring to the findings of departmental audits, Wilson alleged that irregularities had been identified in four departments. She also targeted former School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, referring to cases pending against him and videos that had recently emerged concerning him.
Education, he said, was a particularly important sector, but it had also been affected by alleged corruption. Wilson claimed that irregularities worth more than Rs 150 crore had occurred in the Education Department under the previous regime and alleged that the issue had come to light through the developments involving Anbil Mahesh.
The Minister contrasted the present government’s approach with that of the previous administration, stating that public money was being managed without corruption and with greater transparency. His remarks came amid continuing political exchanges over alleged irregularities in government departments.
