Chennai, Oct 29:
The State Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Thursday, approved an incentive package for eight industrial projects involving investments of Rs 3,767 crore, with the initiatives expected to generate employment for 4,853 people across Tamil Nadu.
The projects will be established or expanded in Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Coimbatore, Krishnagiri and Erode districts. They cover emerging and strategically important sectors, including technical textiles, aerospace and defence, life sciences and electronics.
The Cabinet also approved expansion plans submitted by three companies as part of the incentive package. However, the government did not disclose the names of the companies or provide a district-wise breakdown of the proposed investments and employment opportunities.
The approvals are expected to support industrial development across the five districts, while encouraging companies to establish new facilities or expand their existing operations in the State.
The focus on sectors such as aerospace, defence, electronics and life sciences is significant as Tamil Nadu seeks to broaden its industrial base beyond traditional manufacturing and strengthen its position in technology-driven industries.
The proposed projects are also expected to create employment opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled workers. Their actual contribution to the State’s economy will depend on the implementation of the projects, the pace of investment and the extent to which the proposed employment opportunities materialise.
The latest approvals come against the backdrop of investment commitments worth approximately Rs 1.02 lakh crore announced during the first 100 days of the TVK-led government.
The Cabinet’s decision marks a step towards translating those investment commitments into industrial projects. Incentives are expected to facilitate the establishment and expansion of companies, although details of the individual projects and their implementation schedules have not been disclosed.
The government is seeking to attract fresh investments while promoting industrial growth and employment generation across different regions of Tamil Nadu.
The eight projects approved on Thursday are expected to contribute to this effort, with the proposed investments spread across five districts rather than being concentrated in a single industrial centre.
