Miami, Oct 30:
Lionel Messi failed to score as Inter Miami needed a late equaliser from Riquelme Fillipi to secure a 2-2 draw against FC Cincinnati in a Major League Soccer match.
Luis Suarez gave Miami the lead in the 61st minute, but Cincinnati fought back with two goals in the closing stages. Kenji Mboma Dem equalised in the 80th minute before Samuel Gidi put the visitors ahead six minutes later with his first MLS goal, scoring on a counterattack.
Miami appeared to be heading for defeat before Fillipi struck in the 90th minute, scoring his first goal in Major League Soccer to rescue a point for the reigning MLS Cup champions.
Cincinnati came close to snatching a winner in stoppage time when Evander had a shot from around the penalty spot, but Miami defender Ian Fray got in the way to deflect the effort. The resulting corner did not produce a goal.
The draw saw Miami slip to third in the Eastern Conference after New England defeated Red Bull New York 3-2. New England moved to 58 points, two ahead of Miami, with both teams having two regular-season matches remaining.
Miami will travel to face New England on Sunday in a crucial encounter that could influence the final Eastern Conference standings and playoff seeding. The team will then host Charlotte on November 7 in its final regular-season fixture.
Cincinnati, meanwhile, missed an opportunity to move closer to securing a playoff place.
