Former Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration Minister and senior DMK leader K N Nehru has accused the government of conducting raids to divert public attention from the problems prevailing in the country.
His remarks came a day after the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) conducted searches at 25 locations across Tamil Nadu, including premises linked to Nehru, in connection with an alleged âč634-crore cash-for-jobs scam in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department.
The searches were carried out following a case registered against Nehru and others after the Madras High Court directed an investigation into alleged irregularities in government recruitment, based on material provided by the Enforcement Directorate.
The case concerns allegations that money was collected from candidates in exchange for government jobs during Nehruâs tenure as minister between 2021 and 2025. The alleged irregularities involve recruitment to 2,538 posts. The allegations are yet to be established in court.
The DVAC teams examined documents and financial records at several locations, including Nehruâs residence in Tiruchirappalli and properties linked to his associates and family members.
