Chennai, Oct 30
The Tamil Nadu government has raised the annual family income ceiling for availing benefits under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme from Rs 1.20 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh, extending the coverage to more families.
The move comes along with an increase in the total insurance cover under the scheme to Rs 25 lakh per family.
Under the revised arrangement, beneficiaries can avail cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh. Any treatment expenses beyond this limit, subject to the overall coverage ceiling of Rs 25 lakh, will be met from the scheme’s corpus fund.
The government has also invited tenders to select a public sector insurance company to implement the revised scheme. The selected insurer will be responsible for providing insurance coverage and facilitating treatment for eligible beneficiaries through empanelled hospitals.
The scheme, which currently provides insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh per family, is being expanded as part of the State government’s efforts to improve access to healthcare. The enhanced coverage is expected to benefit a larger number of families following the revision of the income eligibility limit.
The existing scheme’s eligibility ceiling was Rs 1.20 lakh a year.
