New Delhi, Nov 2:
India have moved up to fourth place in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings after Bangladesh slipped to fifth following their eight-wicket defeat to West Indies in the opening Test of their two-match series in Mirpur.
India, who have 68 points from 11 Tests, now have a points percentage of 51.52, while Bangladesh have dropped to 47.62 per cent from seven matches, with 40 points.
Bangladesh’s defeat came after West Indies bowled them out for 142 in the second innings, setting the visitors a target of 170. The West Indies chased it down with eight wickets in hand, led by an unbeaten 81 from Brandon King. Roston Chase was the standout bowler, taking five wickets for 36 runs.
The latest result has also reshaped the top of the table. New Zealand have moved to first place with 72.22 per cent, followed by defending champions South Africa at 71.43 and Australia at 69.23. India are fourth, ahead of Bangladesh, England, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Pakistan.
India’s rise comes without the team playing a Test. Bangladesh’s loss has allowed India to move ahead of them, while South Africa’s 2-1 series victory over Australia has pushed the Australians down from the top position.
India have seven Tests remaining in the 2025-27 cycle â two away Tests against New Zealand followed by a five-match home series against Australia. Their campaign has so far included five wins, four defeats and two draws.
The top two teams at the end of the league phase will qualify for the WTC final in 2027. India will need a strong finish in their remaining matches to improve their chances of securing a place in the summit clash.
