Chennai:Â The city police are investigating the gruesome murder of an Imam at Triplicane here last night.
A resident of Old Washermepet, Sayyed Varudeen (53) worked at a commercial complex at Triplicane. He devoted his time by offering prayers (‘duas’) for people who approached him.
According to police, last night, he was attacked by an unknown person who came to him wearing a purdah. The assailant poured something on his face and soon fled the spot.
The police have got the visuals on CCTV cameras. According to sources, the images revealed a person wearing purdah throwing something like a chemical on his face and running away. “We do not know if the attacker is a male or a female,” police said.
Even as Sayyed was rushed to the Government Kilpauk Hospital, he passed away without responding to treatment.
AUTO DRIVER KILLED
In an unrelated case, an auto driver was found murdered at his residence at Kundrathur this morning.
According to the police, Rajendran (53) was found with head injuries at his house in Bharathi Nagar by his wife Devi (35) this morning.
Devi told police that she had gone to a relative’s house yesterday morning and returning home to find Rajendran dead.
Preliminary reports say that he died of head injuries after a stone was smashed against his head.
Police found that an illegal relationship caused the murder. Devi was Rajendran’s second wife. The couple has two children.
Rajendran’s body was shifted to Government Chrompet Hospital for post mortem.
