Chennai: DMK today filed a case against State Municipal Minister S P Velumani on corruption charges. There were allegations that Velumani had handed over government contracts to his relatives. A complaint was lodged with DVAC officials on 10 September.
Sources in the DMK said that since they have not received anyt reply from teh DVAC officials for their complaint, DMK organisational secretary R S Bharathy today filed a case against S P Velumani.
Bharathy alleged in his petition that Velumani showed favouritism in finalising tenders for the Smart Cities project. He added that since no action was taken by DVAC, he was compelled to file the case before the Madras High Court. He also submitted a 3000-page docuent to substantiate his charges.
It may be recalled that a few days ago, DMK president M K Stalin demanded the sacking of the Minister to facilitate a fair probe by the DVAC.
“Action should be taken against Velumani and all those who had been party to the scam,” he said and demanded the State government to remove Mr Velumani from his post.
Denying any act of corruption, Velumani, said, “I have not committed even the smallest of mistakes using my authority as Minister. If the charges against me are proven, I will leave politics. I will resign from the post of district secretary given to me by Amma and step aside. If the charges against me are not proven, Stalin should resign as DMK President and Leader of the Opposition and give the post to his senior in the party, Duraimurugan or his older brother, MK Alagiri.”
