Chennai: A cleanliness drive was being conducted throughout the State today by collectors and health officials as a measure to prevent the spread of dengue and swine flu, Tamilnadu Health Secretary, Dr J Radhakrishnan, has said.
He has appealed to people not to spread rumours about the prevalence of dengue and swine flu.
Speaking to mediapersons today here at Saidapet, Radhakrishnan advised people not to let water stagnate in empty plots and waste land. He suggested that instead of harbouring baseless fears, people should be proactive and take steps to prevent the spread of the flu.
He advised people to wash their hands frequently to prevent the spread of swine flu.
He also assured the public that there was enough stock of necessary medications in government hospitals to treat patients.
Reeling out statistics, he said, in a day, nearly 20 people were returning home in Tamilnadu after being treated for swine flu, and added that 8,025 people have been affected by the flu throughout India.
So far, 625 patients in India and 15 in Tamilnadu have succumbed to swine flu, said the Health Secretary.
