Facebook owned Instagram is reportedly working on updating its services in India to maintain its strong user base, second only to the US. New updates are on cards including the addition of Hindi language support for Indian users.

The reason? Facebook has about 294 million users in India and the online giant does not want to relinquish such a strong user base.

The photo and video sharing app has been working on a beta version which has Hindi support. This was found by tipster Jane Manchun Wong, who shared screenshots of the same. The beta version had comments, settings, profile and even the IGTV section in Hindi.

Instagram rolled out several new features this year, with the biggest of all being IGTV, a long-form video feature that allows a user to publish videos of up to 60 minutes with support for vertical viewing.

The feature is available for both iOS and Android users. It has channels too that are made by the creators. Instagram recently allowed users to add music in Stories.

Reportedly, Instagram is also working on a feature that will group college students based. It will allow users to send a direct message or watch a user’s public Story directly from the community lists and also enable them to see lists according to classes.

With Facebook reportedly working on India-centric updates in its other platforms, read WhatsApp updates to stop spread of fake news in India, it can be expected that given time, other major languages will find their way in too.
