Chennai:  The Madras Medical Mission (MMM) conducted a walkathon on World Diabetes Day from Mugappair West Depot to MMM Hospital, Wednesday.

A press release said a team of doctors, clinicians and paramedical students took part in the public awareness programme.

MMM, medical administration director, Dr Solomon J K Wilson, flagged off the walkathon and said, “In today’s world of turmoil, hardship and strife have made it increasingly difficult to pursue a relaxed, healthy lifestyle.”

“Making healthy choices in everyday situations for all people should be made possible with ease. The Inter National Diabetic Federation has adopted ‘The Family and Diabetes’ as the theme for this year,” said Diabetology associate consultant, Dr Manoj Kumar Shah.

Diabetology, associate consultant, Dr A Ramanan, said students are ambassadors of good health for their families.

Screening for risk factors and diabetic camp is conducted in a systematic way at MMM Hospital. This is done free of cost to the underprivileged and needy, the release added.
