
Srinagar: Six militants were today killed in an encounter with security forces in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
An army official said exchange of fire between security forces and militants began in the early hours in Bijbehara area of the district.
“Six militants were killed in the operation and weapons were recovered from the spot,” he said.
Officials said they had information that six or seven militants were hiding at Seikpora village and when search and cordon operation began in early hours it turned into an operation.
“We have recovered war-like stores from encounter site,” army spokesperson Rajesh Kalia said.
Meanwhile, the J&K Police’s Twitter post read: “In one of the most successful operations of this year so far six Lashkar militants killed. Operation was launched last night on a hideout in foothills of Waghama Sutkipora of Bijbeihara Anantnag. Six dead bodies of militants and six rifles recovered.”
As a precautionary measure, authorities have suspended mobile internet services in Anantnag.
On Tuesday, four militants were killed in neighbouring Shopian district in a similar operation.
