Chennai: The DMK and its allies the Congress and a lone IUML member today boycotted the customary address of Governor Banwarilal Purohit on the opening day of the first Assembly session of the year by staging a walkout.
As the Governor began his address saying ‘Vanakkam’ and gave a message to the members of the House stressing on ‘simple living,’ Leader of Opposition and DMK president M K Stalin stood up trying to say something.
Though Purohit urged Stalin to resume his seat, saying ‘with folded hands I request you’, the Leader of Opposition continued to speak on issues like the circumstances surrounding the death of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa which could not be heard properly.
DMK president M K Stalin and other opposition MLAs staged walkout from the Assembly today.

The Governor after telling Stalin that he and the other members could discuss issues later, continued with his address to the House.

A smiling Stalin led the walkout of his party members and those from the Congress and the IUML.
Speaking to mediapersons outside the Assembly hall, Stalin said the AIADMK government has failed in all fronts.
“This government has not been able to get the required funds from Central government for Cyclone Gaja relief works. The State government sought Rs 15,000 crore for relief works, however, the Central government has not even given Rs 1,500 crore. It has also failed in the Sterlite and Mekedatu issues,” he said.
Stalin said the Governor is reading the speech which has been prepared by a failed government.
He also pointed out to Law Minister C Ve Shanmugam’s recent doubts over Jayalalithaa’s demise and stressed on the need for CBI probe into the issue.
