A S Alexander and Ann Jennifer

A S Alexander and A S Ann Jennifer, siblings residing in UNI Colony, Kodambakkam, are making waves in the motor racing circuit.

The duo participated in the 2018 National Racing Championship organised by the Madras Motor Racing Club recently and while Alexander finished third in the podium, Ann clinched the title in the women’s category and also won the Make One TVS championship.

The two of them who began their foray into the sport in 2016, speak to News Today.

Alexander said, “Right from our childhood, both of us would watch Moto GP. Inspired by that, it was me who brought up the topic of becoming a racer. Since my sister, too, had an interest in it, with the support of my parents, we made the first step of joining a racing academy in 2016.”

“Initially, we joined Kingdom Motorsports, where we received training. It was here that we learnt the rules and regulations of a professional race. Slowly we began racing in pro events,” he added.

They had also received training for a month in Marina Go-kart racing, that helped them understand the various nuances, post which they made their racing debut in the 2016 Suzuki Gixer cup.

Alexander said, “We were confident due to the good training we received.”

He had made a podium finish in the event, while Ann finished fourth in the girls’ category.

It was in 2017 that they qualified for the National Motor Racing Championship.

“The competition was intense and I won the first race of my career in that tournament,” noted Ann.

It was their consistent performance all through the year that made Sparxx Racing team take them in, it is said. When asked about their goals, both of them stated that they wanted to get into Moto GP as a racer.

“Our parents are our biggest source of strength, as it was their support that helped us achieve so much,” says Alexander.
