Kochi: There has been increasing incidents of ‘violations’ of discipline and protests by the priests and nuns over various issues in Kerala and taking a serious view of this a Kerala-based Syro-Malabar Church directed its bishops to take action against the perpetrators.

According to a circular issued by the Synod of the Church of Malabar Syrian Catholics said that groups working against the church would not be accepted and said that all diocese and congregations priests and nuns who violate the rules will be first given show-cause notices and then if the explanation given by them is not satisfactory disciplinary action will taken against them as per the Canon law.

Prior permission should be taken from superiors before participating in TV channel discussions and interviews.

A group of priests of the Syro-Malabar church had hit the streets here in March last year, urging the Cardinal to keep off all responsibilities of the Ernakulam-Angamaly archdiocese following allegations of irregularities in a land deal involving him.

Recently, a nun under Syro-Malabar church, had been issued notice by her congregation after she published poems, bought a car and took part in a protest against former bishop of Jalandhar and rape-accused Franco Mulakkal, who was arrested last September following sexual allegations by a nun.

The Church’s order comes at a time when four of the five nuns who led the agitation against Mulakkal have decided not to obey their superiors order.
