Residents of the neighbourhood are displeased with the shifting of a nationalised bank in Besant Nagar.
It may be noted that the State Bank of India branch here, was recently moved from Church Road near Tiger Varadhachari Street to Second Avenue, Besant Nagar, in a short notice, leaving customers in a lurch.
Some even alleged that the facility’s employees are having a hard time, coping with both work and the shifting process.
However, when News Today spoke to the officials, they denied the allegations, simply stating these temporary issues would be sorted out in due time.
A longtime resident of Besant Nagar and a senior citizen on the condition of anonymity, put forth few questions regarding the shifting.
“I found employees working amid the background noise of construction. They are building the lockers. Once you decide, should you not give time to account holders and employees? They could have shifted after everyone settled,” he said.
“Putting up notice on a white board is not the way to do it. They did not even mention ‘inconvenience regretted,'” he added.
Customers claimed that the bank faced issues with faulty passbook printing machine, ATM and several network snags.
“The time they chose to shift was wrong, as it was the year-end and vacation period,” he noted.
Speaking on this, a representative of the bank, said, “The problem of shifting is a temporary one. We have moved to a building which previously housed another bank. The two Nationalised financial service centres had merged and the shifting was for the benefit of customers. At this new location, they can identify the facility easily. Apart from this, the new place is spacious as well.”
So are the employees under a lot of workload and stress? “Well, its 3.45 pm and I have not had any water or my lunch,” responded the official.
Another staff told this newspaper that the only problem they are facing, is the shortage of hands. He also asked residents to see the development simply as a merger of the banks, and assured that the issues would be sorted at the earliest.
