Coimbatore: Perarivalan’s mother Arputhammal on Thursday began a campaign across Tamilnadu seeking people’s support for early release of her son, who along with six others, has been convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

Arputhammal told reporters, Tamilnadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, even after four-and-a-half months of the Supreme Court order to consider the mercy petition, has not taken any step in that regard.

So, she decided to conduct the statewide campaign to garner people’s support her campaign and would go on till the Governor issues the release order, she added.

Arputhammal said she had met the Governor sometime back and he had reportedly told her he would take steps for Perarivalan‘s release, but he has till now not taken any steps.

She also stated that all political parties have been supporting her in the campaign to get Perarivalan released, however, she was told that the Central government cannot interfere in the matter.
