Chennai: Actor Simbu has clarified that he did not ask his fans to perform milk abishekam for his cutouts when he asked them to celebrate his birthday on ‘vera level’.
Speaking to mediapersons here this morning, he found fault with the media for misinterpreting his two videos – one which pleaded with his fans not to put up huge cutouts for his birthday (3 February) and desist from performing milk abishekam, and the other in which he asks them to put up huge flex banners and perform abishekam not just with packets of milk but in ‘andas’ (huge vessels) (bottom video).
He clarified today that he told his fans to fill andas with milk not to do abishekam on a lifeless cutout but give it to human beings who are poor. Simbu quoted Ramalinga Adigalar (Vallalar): ‘Vadiya Payirai Kanda Pothellam Vadinen’ (I suffered every time I saw crops wither), and said that was his mindset.
The actor recalled an incident when a fan of his died while doing milk abishekam for his cutout and said this changed his thinking. So, he spoke at a cinema function, asking his fans not to do this ritual as that was not the only way to show ‘mass’.
The second video in which he asks his fans to celebrate his birthday in a big way was to send out the message in a negative way, said Simbu.
“If you listen closely, you will understand that I am not asking them to perform milk abishekam but to distribute the milk to needy people,” he said.
He put his hands together and said he was seeking apology if through his video he had offended anybody.
