Chennai: The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court today ordered closure of Tamilnadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) outlets throughout Tamilnadu tomorrow in view of Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary.
Kanyakumari-based activist Rathish moved the court in this regard. Gandhi was assassinated on 30 January 1948 in the compound of Birla House, a large mansion in New Delhi. As the death anniversary of Gandhi is celebrated throughout the country for peace and goodwill, the court has asked the authorities to close the liquor shops as a goodwill gesture.
