Ramanathapuram: A fishing boat that was anchored in Pamban drifted and got stuck on rocks close to the railway bridge on Wednesday.

According to official report, the rope of the mechanised boat snapped due to strong winds and currents and got stuck on rocks close to the 2.3 km-long bridge, which was commissioned 1915. The bridge connects Rameswaram to the mainland.

The report said such incidents were bot new and that operations to retrieve the boat is on with the involvement of local fishermen. There is no damage to the bridge and no risk to life. The boat can be retrieved once the level of water goes up due to tides, said the report.

High winds and strong currents began on Tuesday and is still continuing, added the official report.
