For volunteer-scribe Padmini, service is for pure soul satisfaction and nothing else in this world can give her that satisfaction.

A resident of Virugambakkam, Chennai, for the last two decades, she has been helping many visually challenged persons pass examinations.

Speaking to News Today, Padmini said the job of a volunteer scribe does not end with writing the exam for them but many a time it is more than that.

Citing a incident, she said, “A student wanted a lesson in Tamil and I had to search for that particular book. But that book was in English and I translated the text into Tamil. It took nearly a week for me to search and complete the work.”

To be a scribe, it needs many skills, including being punctual and having good vocabulary. While writing an examination for a visually-challenged person, one should not write what s/he knows, but try to get the maximum out of the candidate.

Respect and empathy for the visually-impaired person is another main requisite for a scribe, she points out.

Padmini can be reached at 91760 21017.
