TT Super League begins in city

Chennai: The second edition of the Table Tennis Super League Tamilnadu organized by Indusports Leagues India LLP kickstarted at the VR Mall, Anna Nagar, here on Friday. In the first round of the league, Ramco Hilux defeated Timelink Chargers 7-2 and won 70 points to top the table. Sitting in the second spot is LA Black Thunders which defeated Mighty Warriors 6-3. A total of 8 teams will be participating in the edition that will feature 48 players divided into six categories, which is Men, Women, Junior Boys, Junior Girls, Cadet Boys and Veterans.

The selection of players was done through a player auction. Before the matches, the teams were introduced on Friday and speaking during the occasion, Sameer Bharat Ram, Director Indusports said “Tamilnadu’s top table tennis players will showcase their skills and talent while representing their respective franchise-based teams during the 3-day event. This is the second edition of the TTSL and the matches will certainly be very competitive and exciting.”

The 8 teams will be divided into 2 groups of 4 each. Each team will play all other teams in their respective group once and the top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the Semi-Finals. Each team tie will consist of nine matches and all the matches have to be played at the group stage as each match has points. The men will play 3 matches (1 singles & 2 doubles), women will play 2 matches (1 Singles & 1 doubles), Junior Boys – 2 matches (1 singles & 1 doubles), Junior Girls – 2 matches (1 singles & 1 doubles), Cadet Boys – 1 match (1 singles), Veterans 2 matches (1 singles & 1 doubles). The tournament is being held till 24 February.

Hindustan Kingpongs beat Taraka Avengers : 5 – 4
LA Black Thunders beat Mighty Warriors : 6 – 3
AA Blasters beat Green Rockers : 5 – 4
