PM unveils various road, railway projects in TN

Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi after kick-starting the campaign in the 2019 general elections for the BJP alliance with the AIADMK in Tamilnadu yesterday unveiled a number of road and railway projects at the event.

The projects worth crores of rupees would reduce carbon footprint, provide fast and safe journey, save fuel, and cut down on travel time in Tamilnadu. Through video conferencing, he unveiled road projects in Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram and Tirupur districts.

Foundation stones for five national highways projects which will pass through Villupuram, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Vellore and Kancheepuram districts were laid by Modi. These projects worth Rs 5,010 crore also included four-laning and six-laning.

The 122-km two-lane section of NH-38 falling in Vellore, Thiruvannamalai and Viluppuram districts, and a 32-km four-lane section of NH-381 in Tirupur were dedicated to the nation.

Electrified sections of railways’ Erode-Karur-Tiruchirappalli and Salem-Karur-Dindigul corridors have been completed at a cost of Rs 321 crore in just 26 months. And the electrification of the railway will help save fuel. Ennore LNG terminal was also dedicated to the nation.

A statue of AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran was also unveiled by the Prime Minister in the premises of MGR Janaki Arts and Science College for Women through video conferencing.

Chief Minister K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam were among those present on the occasion.
