Priyaa Kishore, a resident of Mylapore, Chennai, is a multi-faceted personality. Juggling her career as a successful writer, radio jockey, YouTuber and also running a women-based organisation that conducts many events, she can surely provide the requisite inspiration for many young women out there.

Speaking to News Today about her journey, the daughter of popular dramatist Raadhu, Priyaa Kishore says her career as a radio jockey started as early as when she was 12-years-old. “I was doing programmes for Vividha Bharathi when I was 12 in 1985. Soon we launched our own company called Priya Vision and started doing programmes for Doordarshan through which I also entered television.”

After completing journalism and MBA, she simultaneously started writing. “During 1993, when All India Radio gave slots for outsiders to do private shows, we started a prime time slot called Priyamana Neram. I was the recordist and RJ for the programme and we did that continuously for nine years where I won the best RJ award consecutively for six years,” she says.

However, Priya’s passion for writing made her start a free women’s magazine, Priyamana Thozhi on 8 March, 2000. “It is the only free Tamil magazine available today and during the same year I started a ladies club which again is
completely free,” she adds.

There are currently 750 members in the club. She says that the club has been bifurcated into various categories like Kolam Sangam, kitchen club, Arts and crafts club and Kalaigal Sangam. Based on the interest of the members, they can join the club and each will conduct its own events, she says.

On what made her to form a women’s club she says “I am a single child so I always love interacting with people. Hence I wanted to form a club and doesn’t want to make money out of it. Through the club, I have learnt a lot from every member.”

She also gives devotional speeches and currently does a show titled ‘Unnal Mudiyum’ in a private FM Radio which will be aired every day from 6.40 am to 7 am. She adds that her husband and son has been a great pillar of support all these years. “My husband helps in the marketing of all the programmes and my son too has his own drama company ‘Madras Drama Company.'”

When asked about the plans for Women’s Day, she says “The club’s anniversary falls every year close to women’s day so during our anniversary celebration we felicitate women achievers. This year, we are also planning to honour 19 women as a mark of our 19th anniversary,” she says.

About her aim, she says “From Tamil New year I have decided to focus more on my YouTube Channel ‘Priyaa Kishore’ through which I am planning to bring to light the talents of women. I am planning to reach out to underprivileged women and help them in some way,” she concludes.
