The newly-inaugurated post office at Gowrivakkam.

In a huge relief to residents of the locality, the post office which had been closed at Gowrivakkam, has now opened at Sembakkam, Chennai.

The facility is now located in Vembuliamman Street, Kamarajapuram, and came into use from 4 March. Sources said the old building in Gowrivakkam was shut due to road expansion works four months ago.

Following this, the post office was operating from the Selaiyur branch located in Mahalakshmi Nagar. Since a few residents, especially senior citizens, found it difficult to reach it, they requested the officials to soon find a place to reopen the Gowrivakkam post office.

Now, the inauguration of one such facility in the locality itself has come as happy news for them. Speaking to News Today, a Postal Department official said the new office will be a single window one and provide various services such as savings, payment and insurance schemes.

“The delivery office, however, will continue to be operated from the Selaiyur branch,” the official said, and added that the facility will be open for public from 9 am to 5 pm.

The official also noted that a Dak Adalat meeting to redress the grievances related to postal services at Tambaram division, will be held at the office of the Senior Superintendent of Post Offices 19 March at 11 am.

A press release said, members of the public are requested to present their grievances, if any, to the Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Tambaram division, Tambaram, by post, so as to reach them before 14 March.
The post office can be reached at 22781655.
