Visakhapatnam: In a tragic incident, an explosion at an illegal fire crackers manufacturing unit located at Gullipalle in Visakhapatnam district killed two, while five were grievously injured yesterday.

The incident occurred at around 10.45 am while the workers were preparing the firecrackers, said media reports.

Further investigations revealed that the factory owner’s license for the unit was valid up to 2013 only, and he had applied for it again in his brother’s name but however it was still pending. He was subsequently arrested and a case under Section 304 of the IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and Section 3 and 5 of the Explosives Substances Act has been registered against him.

This is second such explosion in the same unit. In May 2012, three persons died and two others injured in an explosion there. The injured have been admitted to the KG Hospital in the district.
