Chennai: Motorists who happen to pass through Puliyur Main Road in Trustpuram are facing a tough time, as the stretch is filled with potholes and broken speed breakers.
Puliyur Main Road is a vital stretch that connects Arcot Road in Kodambakkam and Vanniyar Street in Choolaimedu. As it links two major localities, several motorists and residents use the road to avoid traffic and reach their destinations on time. However, poor road conditions have made it difficult for drivers to commute.
According to sources, “Large potholes are seen every few feet. At certain sections, cratered speed breakers pose threats for bikers. There are also spaces where roads have been laid unevenly, while in few places, the lane has been dug by various departments like TNEB, private and government network providers and others.”
“As the stretch connects to interior residential areas, many walkers come here in the mornings. But under these circumstances, people have started avoiding this road. Now they walk through other smaller streets,” sources added.
Another locality suffering from similar problems includes Vellalar Street. Here, since September 2018, residents are being forced to put up with poor roads. Sources informed that a major drainage work at Gangaiamman Koil Street took place seven months ago.
The work that extended to Vellalar Street and the residential stretch at Gangaiamman Colony, saw Municipal workers dig up the roads to install sewage pipes. Once the work was complete, re-laying was done at Gangaiamman Koil Street, South Sivan Koil Street and other surrounding streets.
However, Vellalar Street was ignored. For months, residents here have consistently requested authorities to attend to the same, but their pleas went unheard.
