Chennai: Ever thought that the days of thandatti, pambadam and oddiyanam are long gone? Fret not, for such vintage jewellery are making a comeback.

In this context, leading jewellery brand Prince Jewellery has organised the 20th edition of its annual exhibition “Ancient secrets”. Exclusive for vintage jewellery, the exhibition started on Friday in the city.

News Today caught up with Princeson Jose, founder of Prince Jewellery, who said, “With every passing year, there is a big demand for these type of collections. Nagas collection, inspired from deities, animals and nature are welcomed the most.”

“Traditional ornaments like kada, koppu, rakkodi, addigai and mullai mottu witness an increasing demand these days,” he said, adding that the collections attract both older and younger generations, especially women.

“This year, we have come up with new add-ons to Chettinad thali and yezhu kal thodu (stud with seven ruby stones) has been modified into a three-layered necklace.”

Jose said, “We use traditional methods to remodify the jewellery into vintage ones, though the process is costlier than modern methods.”

Talking about their customer base, he said, “Most of our customers are non-resident Indians (NRI), who come to India for vacation during June and July and want to shop these kind of jewellery. That is why we schedule the exhibition during this time of the year.”

“A lot of people invest in gold, as its value keeps increasing unlike other investments. People from different economic strata invest in gold, because, even smaller investment will fetch good returns in the future,” concludes Jose.
