Palaniswami flagging off the new buses

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today flagged off 500 new buses from the Secretariat here.

The buses, bought at a total cost of Rs 159 crore, are meant for the Metropolitan Transport Corporation and the State Express Transport Corporation.

Of the 500 buses, 100 buses have been allocated for Metropolitan Transport Corporation, say reports.

Of the remaining, 150 buses are meant for the State Express Transport Corporation.

The Kumbakonam division gets 110 buses, Madurai division, 50; Coimbatore division, 30; Tirunelveli division, 30; Salem division, 20; and Villupuram division, 10 buses.

This would be a big relief for passengers who suffer every day travelling by rickety old buses of Tamilnadu.

During today’s function at the Secretariat, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam participated. He was joined by Transport Minister M R Vijayabhaskar, Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, and ministers R B Udayakumar and Thangamani.

New Chief Secretary Shanmugam and DGP J K Tripathy were also present at the gala function.
