Sasikala moves HC to set aside questions posed by lower court

Chennai: V K Sasikala, former AIADMK leader, moved the Madras High Court yesterday seeking to set aside questions put forth to her by a lower court on the J J TV Private Limited issue.

Sasikala who was the close aide of late chief minister J Jayalalitha is serving a sentence in Bengaluru prison in a disproportionate assets case.

However, a counsel for Enforcement Directorate (ED) had filed a counter, and Justice Anand Venkatesh who was hearing the case adjourned the matter to 3 September.

The case involves J J TV Private Limited hiring transponders from outside India, and the payment was reportedly without RBI permission. This is in violation of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act.

However,  Sasikala submitted that she was not responsible for day-to-day on goings of the firm and so cannot be questioned about ii.

The ED’s counsel in a counter, said Sasikala was well aware of the firm’s activities and therefore she can answer charges made against the company put forth by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Economic Offences-I) Egmore. Counsel submitted that Sasikala along with MD V Bhaskaran was liable for the offence committed by the company.
