Chennai: Despite government figures suggesting that unemployment is at a 45-year high, more than 4 in 5 (84 per cent) Indian organisations are expecting a hiring surge in the coming 12 months, according to the 2019 India Employment Screening Benchmark Report by HireRight, a leading provider of global employment background checks.
Fewer companies anticipate any form of decline in their workforce this year compared to the last report (11 per cent in 2019 versus 13 per cent in 2018). However, there remains concern over talent acquisition – over a third of respondents in India (33 per cent) deemed finding, developing and retaining talent as one of their top 3 business challenges of 2019; ahead of growing revenues (19 per cent) and maintaining a competitive edge (18 per cent).
General Manager, India at HireRight, Marcellus Solomon said, “With India aspiring to become a $5 trillion economy by 2025, we can expect heavy investments in infrastructure, digitalisation and entrepreneurship but to power these ambitions, India needs good talent. We need to ensure India is able to attract, retain and nurture the best talent.”
