Medavakkam has developed into one of the largest commercial hubs in the Southern suburb, so to say.

Many houses and shops have come up in the locality resulting in rapid development of the area. However, the neighbourhood lacked one essential service: a fire station. But the wait for this too is over, as one such facility has opened recently here.

According to sources, the inauguration was done by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami by video conferencing. The fire station will be operating from the Medavakkam Town Panchayat premises. The announcement about this was made during the previous Assembly session. Speaking on this, a senior official said that at present, there are 17 fire fighters.

“The calls that are received from this area at the Tambaram station will be diverted here. Very soon, we will have our own number”, he added. Residents are happy about the development.

“We have been requesting for this in Medavakkam for several years. We are happy that it has finally become a reality. Previously, whenever there was a fire in the locality, the truck had to come from Tambaram or Velacheri. This took a lot of time, resulting in the flames going out of control. Now with a station in our locality itself, it can be used for all the nearby areas said Santhakumar”, a resident said.
