Chennai: Due to heat impact and upward air cirulation, showers have been predicted for northern districts of Tamilnadu and Puducherry.
According to Met officials, light to moderate showers will occur in these places in the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, the Tamilnadu Agricultural University (TNAU) had predicted 194mm rainfall in Coimbatore district by the end of the first month of southwest monsoon. However, the district has received hardly 5 per cent of the predicted rainfall.
On the other hand, the month of June has generated 18 per cent above normal rainfall for the country — up to 13 per cent lower than the figure midway due to an intervening lean patch over Central as well as North-West India.
This is despite the fact the monsoon this year covered the entire landscape 12 days ahead of normal date.
