Chennai: The Tamilnadu government has allowed opening of stand-alone private gyms, which were closed since 24 March in view of the Corona lockdown, in the State from 10 August.
An official release said the gyms were allowed to function only for customers below 50 years of age.
The government would come out with a Standard Operating Procedure in this regard and it should strictly followed. The government decided to allow the gyms to open following requests from the Tamilnadu Gym Owners and Trainers Welfare Association and several gym owners.
With the government allowing gyms to reopen, many are pressing for safety measures.
“Gyms must follow the social distancing measures as prescribed by the government. There has to be a sanitisation station at every corner of the gym and equipment must be sanitized each time they are used,” says Haridas, who runs a fitness centre in Kolathur.
The State government ordered allowing gyms to resume operations from 10 August and the Centre has allowed such facilities to work from Wednesday.
Like other establishments, gyms were also closed on 24 March in Tamilnadu as part of measures to fight Covid-19.
