Angoda Lokka

Chennai: The CB-CID wing investigating the ‘death’ of Sri Lankan underworld don Maddumage Chandana Lasantha Perera alias Angoda Lokka (35) is carrying out DNA and viscera tests to establish his identity. This is being done after doubts that he could have faked his death to escape from law and enemies.

Also, a special team of Research and Analysis (RAW) wing arrived in Coimbatore and held a meeting with CB-CID Inspector General of Police K Shankar and other senior officials.

The identity of ‘wanted’ Lokka to be established is crucial for many investigating teams in India and Sri Lanka as a ‘red notice’ was also issued for him by the Interpol.

It is said he was controlling the crime scene in Sri Lanka ā€˜virtually’ from Coimbatore.Ā In order to evade arrests by Sri Lankan police and to live undetected in Coimbatore, he underwent a plastic surgery, unconfirmed reports said.

This is why police cannot confirm from his face and pictures if it is indeed Lokka.Ā It is reported that he went to a private hospital and told doctors that he wanted plastic surgery to change his nose as he was trying his luck in films. But investigating officials believe it was a tactic to evade police.

Seven teams of CBCID are investigating the case to find out how he stayed illegally for three years in India with a forged Aadhar card.

Among the three persons arrested by the police following his death, Madurai-based lawyer, Sivakami Sundari (37) is being quizzed after Sri Lankan media hinted that Lokka had ties with the disbanded LTTE.

Sivakami’s father was a known LTTE symapthiser and she had transactions of nearly Rs one crore in seven accounts.

In Madurai, the CB-CID team seized currencies of Sri Lanka, Canada, China and Singapore, bank passbooks, passports and a few bond papers from the house of Sivakami, reports said.

She also shifted five houses in one year. CB-CID is also checking CCTV footage of the cremation and inquiring with all those who were present.

After a series of murders, smuggling and gang wars in Sri Lanka, Lokka went underground in 2017 eventually coming to Coimbatore. He even supplied protein supplements to many gyms in Coimbatore city.

However on 3 July, he was found dead. He was cremated using fake documents by three persons, including two Sri Lankan nationals.

Subsequently, police arrested Sivagama Sundari, Dhyaneswaran (32) and Amani Dhanji (27), the trio who cremated him.

The arrested persons maintained that the death was natural: Lokka fell unconscious and they rushed him to the hospital where he passed away. After an autopsy report they cremated him.

Amani Dhanji, a Sri Lankan national was living with Lokka since February 2020. An inquiry revealed that Lokka murdered Amani’s husband in Sri Lanka to begin a life with her.

She was pregnant at the time of his death. Recent reports claim that she had aborted the child. Police are probing if she poisoned him.
