Chennai: Taking note of difficulties being faced by the public to move from one place to another due to the existing e-pass system, the Tamilnadu government has decided to form a committee.
According to sources, the State government is considering the existing difficulties faced by the public, and is likely to form a committee, and based on its recommendations, take further action on the issue.
Political leaders, activists and general public have been urging the government to do away with e-pass, implemented to check the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.
Recently, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said e-passes would be immediately given to workers from other States who are willing to come to Tamilnadu.
“Issuing of e-passes has been made easy. Companies which are planning to bring workers from other States can get e-passes immediately,” he said.
Palaniswami said the State was doing everything under its capacity to contain the spread of the coronavirus, and protect the public.
Media reports and political leaders have been highlighting the difficulties faced by the public in securing an e-pass. Reacting to this, the CM said the State government has reformed the e-pass system.
“The e-pass system is still being implemented to restrict unnecessary movement of people, which is the primary reason for the spread of the virus. As a result of this system, we have been able to bring down the caseload across districts,” he said.
