Only 2 areas in Chennai have more than 1,000 corona cases


Chennai: The number of active cases of coronavirus in Chennai has climbed to 10,436. Yesterday, it was 10,393.

According to data compiled by the Greater Chennai Corporation, the city has recorded 1,49,583 infections so far of which, 1,36,155 have recovered. The death toll in the city has reached 2,992.

The highest number of lives were claimed in Teynampet with 402 persons succumbing to the virus. The second highest casualty rate is in Anna Nagar with 333 lives being claimed by the viral infection.

However, in most places, the recovery rate tally the recorded number of cases. As part of rapid testing, on 14 September, as many as 12,180 persons were tested for coronavirus. The Corporation gave an area-wise break-up of the places which have high numbers of Covid-19.

According to the data, Anna Nagar, a containment zone has 1,042 persons contracting the virus, Kodambakkam has close to 1,182 cases. Only these two areas have more than 1,000 cases.

Other places with comparatively high numbers are, Ambattur with 805 active cases, Royapuram with 814 and Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar with 822. In Kodambakkam, as many as 15,383 persons have recovered.

The pandemic has affected more men than women. As per data, 61.14 per cent of the patients are male and 38.86 per cent are female.

Around 18.44 per cent of those contracting the virus is from the age group of 50-59 years.
