Chennai: Congress chief Sonia Gandhi today morning kickstarted a series of meetings to decide the next president of the party.
Several top leaders and party veterans are expected to join the discussions in the coming days, in what is seen as an attempt to revive the electoral prospects of Congress.
It remains to be seen if Rahul Gandhi gets the much-needed support his colleagues, even as on Friday, party spokesperson said, “99.9 per cent leaders in Congress want Rahul Gandhi to lead the party again.”
Source said, Rahul too shall participate in the meetings, that are expected to address the concerns of the ārebelsā, who have openly showed their dissent with the leadership in August.
The party that is suffering from a series of defections including top members like Jyotiraditya Scindia, has come under sharp criticism for being a lacklustre Opposition, while continuous defeats in local and State polls did not help the cause.
Veterans like Kapil Sibal and P Chidambaram too have called out the leadership in the recent past, asking it to introspect and strengthen itself.
