New Delhi: The Supreme Court today stayed the arrest of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and six journalists, including Rajdeep Sardesai, in criminal cases pending against them over their tweets on the death of a Sikh man during the 26 January tractor rally in New Delhi.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde issued a notice on the petitions filed by Tharoor, Sardesai and five other journalists to quash the multiple first information reports (FIRs) pending against them in several States.

“We are issuing notice…nothing is going to happen,” the three-judge bench of Chief Justice Sharad A Bobde and Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian said.
It was hearing petitions filed by Tharoor, along with those of journalists Rajdeep Sardesai, Mrinal Pande, Zafar Agha, Vinod K Jose, Paresh Nath, and Anant Nath, seeking the quashing of police cases against them.

According to reports, the top court stayed the arrest and sought quashing of the FIRs registered against them under charges, including that of sedition.
