
Chennai: Varadharajan, popularly known as ‘Agni’, a worker at Kanchipuram Sri Sankara Math, passed away in a road accident on Saturday.
Sources said he was 38 and the mishap occured near Oragadam when he was on his way from Chennai to Kanchipuram on a car.
‘The driver lost control of the vehicle due to which it hit a lorry parked on roadside. Varadharajan died on the spot,’ they added. Oragadam police have registered a case. The sudden demise of Agni has shocked devotees and well-wishers of the Math.
Speaking to ‘News Today’, Nataraja Sastry, a senior priest at Sri Kamakshi Amman temple in Kanchipuram, said, ‘He earned the name Agni for his grasping power. He was a vedic scholar and was involved in the service of Kanchi Math and its seer Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal. He always wore a smile on his face and assisted devotees.’
Sastry added: ‘Right from young age, Agni excelled in studies. He was a student of Dhandapani Oriental School in Kanchipuram and was State first in Sanskirt. He also won various competitions conducted by Hindu organisations.’ It is learnt that Agni, a resident of Kanchipuram, remained as bachelor due to his spiritual interest.
